I see where you're coming from - I don't know if frenetic is quite the right descriptor to use but it was certainly a lot quicker. But in hindsight I think the bit with the Questing Beast in issue 1 is one of my favorite bits in the first story arc, just for the main character's freaking out. Good character moment.
