As the sun sets on this last day of 2023…….
It’s a good day to reflect and take stock of the year that has passed and the year coming for hopes, goals and dreams. We started our day at church this morning. It was a very appropriate sermon for where we are in time right now. The closing of the year and new beginnings. It was good to be there.
Today marks also, a kind of anniversary for my husband and myself. It was 43 years ago we had our ‘blind date’. Needless to say, it stuck, lol! So in celebration of today for that and the ending of this year and the beginning of the new year, we went to Boulevard Park to take a hike along the elevated boardwalk and into Fairhaven-the town right next door to Bellingham. There was all kinds of wildlife; humans 😁, doggies 🐶 and several birds of a different feather.
Take Alfred for instance. (I named a Seagull this years ago and it’s stuck 😁) It was if he was posing for me! I first caught this picture.
Then as I snapped pictures, he swam showing me all of his good sides, just like a model! I laughed as I took several photos of him! Here’s one of them.
He pirouetted around in the water.
We walked on down to the Alaska Ferry Terminal and went inside. There were Christmas decorations everywhere.
They even had The North Pole there!
After we left the terminal, we started walking back towards Bellingham. There was this thunderous noise off in the distance! I was hopeful………
It was getting louder. I was almost sure……
And there it was!!
As the gates dropped and the bells started clanging; the engineer blew the whistle and I was up close and personal! A total train experience!
I was about 15’ from this moving train and it was noisy and totally awesome!
As we traversed the boardwalk going back, I noticed this guy stopping to take a picture of at first, I thought it was because of some flower like growth there, but soon discovered otherwise. As I moved in closer to take my shot, he eventually moved his head just right and I captured the moment!
This is a magnificent Grey Heron spending his afternoon napping in a tree overlooking the bay. It gave him a bird’s eye view (pun intended) of the bay should a tasty snack surface from the waters below. Plus, he wouldn’t have far to fly for supper when he was finished with the afternoon nap! Very cool!
A very lovely way to spend the last day of the year and our ‘blind date’ anniversary. Thanks for taking the journey with me!
