A little review of the goals we met in 2017, for preps and RV revamping...
The goals last year were to tighten up the RV for the winter to keep energy use down (and stay warm)...and to revamp and stock the kitchen to make it functional for off grid food prep.
For winterizing the RV we have...
Replaced the Skylights
Rubber Coated the roof with white for cooling and insulation
Tightened up the skirting and added tire covers and an insulated windshield cover
Replaced the hoses with heated hoses for winter
Replaced 70% of the lighting with LED
Nyai fixed the AC rooftop unit (which we never ended up using because the rubber roofing kept it cool indoors)
I won't get into the revamping of the interior because I have already posted on that...
For the Kitchen set up we have...
Made the long leaf table which doubles for food prep and leatherwork
Added one more shelf unit by the window next to the leaf table for food prep tools
Replaced the canners with a new water bath and All American
Stocked up on jars
Replaced electric tools with mainly manual kitchen tools, including a Wondermill Jr
Replaced all plastic food storage with pyrex, glass and stoneware
Added a food saver, dehydrator, stock of O2 absorbers and mylar bags
Got 2 sizes of Dutch ovens so I can get rid of the electric crock pot next year (though I might keep it for soap making)
For Food Storage we now have...
4 years Durum wheat berries
3 years hard white wheat
2 years cornmeal
1 year oats
1 year storage food (Legacy style)
1 year raw sugar
1 year honey
1 year dry baking stuff, yeast, powder, soda, salt etc
1 year sprouting seeds
Random canned goods
1 year home canned foods (to be rotated out of course)
1 year legumes
2 years rice
Seeds for veggies, enough to plant 1 small lot, or keep pots growing for a couple years
Water storage containers...unfilled, to fill as needed (We use a Berkey to filter)
General Supplies
Beeswax , enough for 20 or so candles
2 years Wick cord
1 year medicinal herbs, oils and butters
Bottles, jars, tins etc...
Basic Soap supplies and tools...(need much more here)
Tools, we have plenty because we are both tool hounds (but there is always that one tool we don't have, haha)
Plenty of sewing supplies for fabric and leather
About a year of beads ;)
I won't get into medical and hygiene, but we have enough of the things we use, and the kids use...for almost a year.
So, in the end, there are a few things I would have liked to get finished, like replacing the dead fridge and getting a new water heater...but all in all, we got through Most of the 2017 list of things to do...though I am sure I will think of 20 more things we did after I post this :O
Now, onto the 2018 list :)
Thanks for reading, I hope you enjoyed and found it helpful!
