Good day dear Hive Community, first of all I hope that you are all doing well and that you had a day softer full of positive experiences! In this post, I would like to bring a mineral a little closer and hope you can expand your knowledge.
You can see here a specimen of the mineral tridymite and it is also a variety of quartz that was first found in Mexico in Cerro San Cristóbal in the state of Hidalgo. It was named after the mineralogist Gerhard vom Rath (1830 - 1888) who had named the mineral after the Greek word tridymos, which means triplet. Tridymite is formed by the influence of heat and is mostly found in volcanic rocks and the property that it forms under high temperatures also makes it extremely interesting for the production of refractory materials which are used in various areas such as for space travel and it is also of interest for the production of ceramics. It can be classified into the mineral class of oxides and hydroxides and it has been found in several hundred locations so far and, in addition to Mexico, the most important include Spain, Germany, France, India, USA or South America and it has also been found on the moon in the past. Tridymite is a rather rarer mineral that forms abstract crystal shapes and it also often tends to form triplets and can be found together with other minerals such as Quartz, Opal or Chrysolite and it enjoys great popularity among collectors.
