Dear Hive Community, I hope you all had a pleasant weekend and would like to wish you a great start to the new week! Today I would like to introduce you to an interesting part of nature and hope you can learn something new.
Here you can see pictures of a maidenhair tree which is also known under the scientific name Ginkgo biloba. Originally it comes from the Asian region and at the beginning of the 18th century it was brought to Europe by Dutch sailors and today it can be found pretty much everywhere in the world. One of the main characteristics is the unmistakable leaf shape which takes on a yellow color in autumn as can be seen in my pictures and it is a slowly growing tree that can grow a thousand years old. From an ecological point of view, it thrives best in sunny or semi-shaded locations and it is considered extremely robust and is rarely attacked by pests and it reproduces itself through wind pollination. Ginkgo biloba has the ability to form fruits which are from a botanical point of view seeds and it usually takes over 20 years until a Maidenhair trees is pubescent and are also useful from a medical point of view and also used in traditional Chinese medicine. From a medical point of view, it can have a positive effect on the brain and can also have a positive effect against digestive problems, dizziness or circulatory disorders. As always, it should be noted that in case of illness, you should always ask your doctor or pharmacist about the correct use and dosage!
The symbolic meaning is really very diverse and it is often associated with Ying and Yang as well as adaptability or strength and it is also seen as a symbol of love, fertility or strength and there are also numerous legends about this plant. The oldest written mentions of Ginkgo biloba date back to the 11th century and the leaf is often associated with an ambiguous view as well as the bridge of the past and future and in China it is often seen as a tree of happiness and can also be found in Chinese mythology. In Asia, Ginkgo biloba is also considered a sacred tree and is also considered a symbol of cosmic order and is often considered a living fossil due to its long history and also in art it can often be found and is a popular motif for artists. In general, it is a great ornamental plant and suitable for gardens that are supposed to create a unique flair and especially when they discolor the leaves as now in autumn, the play of colors comes well to the present!
