Good day dear Hive friends, at the beginning of my post, I would like to wish you all a wonderful day and also a positive start to the new week! Here I present you a beautiful flower that I photographed near me and hope you like it, maybe you can also learn something new.
The common name of this flower is Liverwort and scientifically Anemone hepatica, the scientific name was determined by the naturalist Carl von Linné already in 1753. I think the first great characteristic of this flower is clearly the strong color, which is usually blue to purple and the appearance of the leaves reminds a little bit of a liver, with which the common name is also associated. The flowering time is already beginning from March and unfortunately does not bloom very long, until about April to early May is the flowering time.
The growth height is rather in a moderate range and in the normal case it does not get higher than 30 cm, but on average is rather 5 - 15 cm. Liverwort is common in the northern hemisphere and the typical locations are forests, embankments and it prefers a place that is best in partial shade. The plant is poisonous, but can also be used in the medical field, by the way, many medicinal plants have the property that they can be poisonous and I will discuss it a little further down in the post.
Now I would like to go into the mythology in more detail! In Greek mythology, Liverwort is associated with Adonis the god of vegetation and beauty and there is a legend that he was killed by a boar and this plant grew out of the blood. Since I am generally interested in mythology, I always think it's great to find also something out about the mythology of plants, even if this one is unfortunately a bit sad.
As mentioned, I would like to come to the medical effects of anemone hepatica now. The history of the healing effect can already go back to the Middle Ages and at that time it was mainly used against rheumatism, but nowadays the science knows more about the plant through research. Liverwort can have an anti-inflammatory effect, also help with diseases of the lungs or generally against pain, it includes the active ingredient anthocyanins, which can have a positive effect on the repair and protection of DNA. As always, it is important to say, always ask your doctor of trust about the correct application, dosage and side effects!
Thanks for stopping by and watching! I used my camera Sony Alpha 6000 and Sony SEL-55210 Telephoto Zoom Lens (55-210mm) to take these pictures.
