Good day dear Hive community, I hope you are all well and you have a day full of positive experiences! In my new post, I would like to present a mineral in a little more detail and hope you can expand your knowledge.
Today I had the opportunity to photograph a rather rare mineral which is also known as Lepidocrocite and belongs to the mineral class of hydroxides and oxides. It was first named in the 19th century by the German mineralogist Johann Christoph Ullmann (1771 - 1821), by the way, the mineral Ullmanite has also been named and after him and with lepidocrocite he referred to the appearance that is somewhat reminiscent of scales and named it after the Greek words lepidion for scales. The formation of lepidocrocite can be traced back to the weathering in iron-containing deposits and worldwide it has already been discovered at several hundred different locations and due to the high content of iron it is also very interesting as an ore. The shape of the crystals usually has a needle-shaped or fibrous appearance as well as a slight shine and the color can vary between red and brown and the best-known places of discoery include Germany, Switzerland, Mexico, Spain and Africa. Sometimes it is also processed into jewelry or sold as a healing stone and it is of course also particularly interesting in collectors circles and when it comes to the healing effect of minerals it is important to know that it is an alternative medicine and you should always ask your doctor or pharmacist for the right medicine!
