Although this butterfly is a member of the Satyrinae subfamily (brown butterflies), when I photographed it with a flash I saw violet and yellow hues on the underside of its wings.

A pesar de que está mariposa es miembro de la subfamilia satirynae (marrones), al tomarle fotos con flash vi matices violeta y amarillo en la cara ventral de sus alas.

Satyrs live in the Neotropical region; their larvae feed on monocots such as palms, grasses, and bamboo. They prefer shady, humid places and are not good fliers.
Las sátiras viven en el reino neotropical, sus larvas se alimentan de monocotiledoneas como palmas, gramíneas y bambú. Prefieren lugares sombreados, húmedos y no son buenas voladoras.
They have been linked to the subspecies Morphinae, which includes, among others, the owl butterflies, to which they are believed to be closely related.
