The words come easily
On stage
Conversationally
But when the music begins
The comfort ends
The tongue twists
The head bends
The heart
Fights the baring
Of the soul
Secrets within
The song creeps forward
Lacking
Missing
That bare soul
That
Would have been shared
Had the fear not
Left the singer
Wooden
Eyes downcast
Going through the motions
Mentally
While nearly
Motionless
This one is definitely about me 😅. I'm surprisingly comfortable with public speaking but somehow, when I sing, I feel, not exactly scared but maybe exposed is the better word. I can't just look out at the crowd and see them as fellow humans. Some weird shift goes on in my mind and I'm no longer comfortable behind the microphone. I've had a few decent performances (back when I was still performing somewhat regularly) but stage fright is one of those issues I'm still working on getting over.
Any other timid performers reading this? Drop a comment (even if you're nervous).
Peace ☮️.
