Like the Orinoco, vast and deep,
sadness stirs beside me:
Sometimes it's a furious roar,
and sometimes a hushed whisper.
In winter it swells, grows, and overflows, sweeping away the peace my soul holds.
It's a torrent that bites and digs deep,
and in its current, it disarms my calm.
In summer, it becomes a timid thread,
a bed of nostalgia and dry stone.
Like an ancient river, withered and gloomy,
that barely manages to flow along its course.

There are days when it's young and strays,
bumps against logs, loses its way.
It sails starless by day,
and at night drowns me in its tumbles.
Other times it's mature, serene,
but gnaws at the ground it treads.
It's a gray silence, a cool air
that even the sunlight quickly fades.
But like the river, it knows it's water,
and that it can be rain, or a stream.
Depression, though perhaps it won't extinguish it;
is minimized when there is self-love.
Because the Orinoco, even when it overflows,
carries in its channel the echo of life:
And I, in my cracks, find the awareness
that this night will not be endless.
bumps against logs, loses its way.
It sails starless by day,
and at night drowns me in its tumbles.
Other times it's mature, serene,
but gnaws at the ground it treads.
It's a gray silence, a cool air
that even the sunlight quickly fades.
But like the river, it knows it's water,
and that it can be rain, or a stream.
Depression, though perhaps it won't extinguish it;
is minimized when there is self-love.
Because the Orinoco, even when it overflows,
carries in its channel the echo of life:
And I, in my cracks, find the awareness
that this night will not be endless.
La depresión, aunque tal vez no lo apague;
La depresión, aunque tal vez no lo apague;
