Today, when I got home from my run/workout, I came across a small visitor in the hallway of my house. At first, I thought it was a bat, since they are quite common where I live. Although they play an important role in maintaining the balance of the ecosystem, they sometimes end up in places where they are not very welcome.
To my surprise, however, it was an owl. At first, I thought it was an owlet, but after taking a closer look, I believe it is actually an adult owl.
I'm not sure whether it fell from the roof or if it's sick, because it kept its eyes closed the entire time. What caught my attention the most was that it was already nighttime, which is exactly when owls are usually active and hunting.
Carefully, I used a shovel to pick it up and moved it to a more sheltered spot in my backyard, away from the cold and the rain. I really hope it recovers well. Tomorrow I'll check on it again, and I hope it has regained enough strength to return safely to the wild.
Hoje, quando cheguei da minha corrida/treino, me deparei com um pequeno visitante no corredor da minha casa. À primeira vista, pensei que fosse um morcego, já que aqui na minha região eles são bastante comuns. Apesar de serem animais importantes para o equilíbrio do meio ambiente, às vezes acabam aparecendo em lugares onde não são muito bem-vindos.
Para minha surpresa, porém, era uma coruja. No início achei que fosse um filhote, mas observando melhor acredito que seja uma coruja adulta.
Não sei se ela caiu do telhado ou se está doente, pois permaneceu o tempo todo com os olhos fechados. O que mais me chamou a atenção é que já era noite, justamente o período em que as corujas costumam estar ativas para caçar.
Com cuidado, usei uma pá para recolhê-la e a coloquei em um local mais protegido no quintal, longe do frio e da chuva. Agora espero que ela consiga se recuperar. Amanhã vou verificar como ela está e torço para que tenha forças para voltar à natureza.
