Not sure how long it will be until we receive any rain. It has been so hot for far too long. I am also about to harvest my shallots, and then after that I have a plan to plant corn in that field.
But with this kind of heat, I am afraid that I might hit another issue. One of my fellow farmers who had planted corn earlier said that most of the seeds were not germinating because of the heat.
First, he flooded the field so that it was wet so that it would be easier for the seed to germinate, but with the heat, the water in the soil became boiling water that boiled the seed to death, so it could not germinate. At least that what he experienced so far, and I am afraid that I might have the same issue with this kind of heat lately.
Can you feel the heat from the photo that I have here? I took it maybe around 10 o'clock, and look at the cloud and the mountain in the background; it indicates the heat of that moment.
