I think being nice is subjective and should be judged based on "what the individual giving the niceties feel and not how the one receiving it should feel."
Life is a web of tangled lies and deceits framed in one big bundle of "they versus us" and "them versus me." If you are not with them, you will never win because, the 'them' own the entire space and even if they have no clue how to make it better, they go on anyway to make it worse for you.
I don't think anyone who doesn't want to be nice should be forced to be. I think we all should not be afraid to show our true color when it comes to attending to people and also, we should throw in some snub politely. Throwing in some snub may be harsh, but it makes the un-serious and time wasting motherfuckers sit up and be useful to themselves so you don't end up wasting your resources on them.
Good guys finish last and they finish really bad because they soon become laughing stocks of failure while the nit good guys take over and they are never nice.
Seriously let's look at the issue now, will you feel good enough to wear a red and green suit to a black suit event?
Even if you should do that to make a difference, do you think you will be able to play the part in a hall full of complaint guests?
"Nice guys should learn to play the part of being a nice guy alongside the part of being an Escobar or the Joker, or a Villain just for kicks."
Did you know that, "nice guys" like Gates, Zuckerberg, Buffet, Ellison, Musk, Jobs, Bezos, Page, Brin, Soros, Kraft, etc all didn't get to where they are by being "Nice Guys", they made sure to screw rather than being screwed.
When you are being crowded by people and they tell you "how good you are" or that "they have been hearing many good things about you," they are not there to compliment you because they like you, no they don't. They see something they want that you have and they will do anything to take it from you, including kissing shitty asses.
If you are ahead, guide your 'nice portfolio' with all might and smartness and don' get carried away with sweet words or loyal sycophantic pleads that mostly sees the "Mr. Nice Guy" coming out last and looking really bad.
Wisdom is profitable to direct and it is not easy to have a space to help. If you are not working to monetize your hobby and passion, you are most definitely going to get screwed by someone who didn't take you to dinner.
