Nigerian teacher Mohammed Bah Abba developed an innovative "pot-in-pot" cooling system to preserve perishable foods in the desert areas of Nigeria where villagers live in poverty without electricity. Motivated by his concern for these people, he created this simple inexpensive, and practical small refrigerator using one pot nestled inside a larger pot with an insulating layer in-between. Bah Abba's project earned him the $75,000 Rolex Award for Enterprise. He is now working to introduce the cooling system to other countries.
How has Mohammed Bah Abba helped people in need?
In arid, impoverished regions, food spoils rapidly, causing severe illness and income loss for farmers and vendors who must 'rush sell' their produce daily. Mohammed Bah Abba's invention has helped eliminate such problems. A devoted women's right advocate, he is also a consultant to the state's Ministry for Women Affairs and Social Mobilization.

Mohammed Bah Abba stepped up to assist the rural poor, stating, "I decided to come up with small additions to ease life for these people. "
What small things can you do to ease the lives of those you may know who are in need?
