That's true. Someone mentioned this rule of thumb to me when I was looking for an apartment to rent. He said if my three months' earnings can't comfortably pay my rent I shouldn't take the house no matter what.

While drafting this post, I also saw another similar idea and it stated that our rent should not be more than 28% of our yearly income and if it exceeds this, then we are definitely living beyond our means.

Since you are following these rules too, then, you are definitely doing great and I hope I wouldn't be wrong if I said you are living within your means which is a good thing.
