Hello holos-lotus@holos-lotus community! Today I’m breaking my tradition of using guiding questions and starting this post with a statement: how important friendships are!

A few days ago, our friend emiliorios@emiliorios spoke to us about loneliness—an issue exacerbated in the 21st century by the use of technology, creating a society forced to drift away from interpersonal relationships and real life. In these new digital times, outdoor activities have lost their central, fundamental role, taking a backseat and leading to an unhealthy kind of isolation.

To be honest, being alone doesn't bother me; solitude helps me step away a bit from the daily noise, stress, and the constant interaction involved in living alongside others. Even though I consider myself a very sociable person, I often reach a point where my "social battery" runs out, and I need to recharge in silence—with a coffee and no one else around. As for "feeling lonely," I’ve never really struggled with that; it seems life itself has placed people in my path who have ensured I NEVER suffer from loneliness, and I am deeply grateful for that.

It seems this time I get to speak from experience, and what better way to do that than by sharing my best solution for loneliness: friendship? After all, it is precisely my friends who keep me from feeling alone.

Last weekend, they rented a house on the coast. It wasn't for getting drunk or throwing a wild party like so many people do, but simply to spend time together—just like we used to. Even though life had kept us apart for a while (the reality of adulthood), it felt as if no time had passed since the days we used to play together—even though most of them have children now.

While we were in the pool, we reminisced about the old days and the crazy things we did as kids, laughing as if we were reliving it all. In the middle of the conversation, one of my friends asked, "How long have we known each other?" And I did a quick mental calculation, then told them: "I can't believe it—without even realizing it, we're celebrating 20 years of friendship." We were all incredibly surprised; no one could believe we were marking such a milestone without even knowing it—life itself had brought us to that moment.

During the time we spent together, there wasn't a single moment where I was—or felt—alone, and now that I’m back at work, I haven't felt that way at all, either. In my experience, friends are one of the most effective ways to combat loneliness—especially when the affection is pure and sincere. I just hope the years keep adding up, that we get to celebrate again and again, and that they always enjoy good health and positive energy; because as long as I have them, I will NEVER be or feel alone.

Here are some photos showing just how much we enjoyed those days:
