I understand why you feel this way, but I disagree. For an OG, it's hard to understand how invisible Hive is. People who would get it never tried it because it isn't on their radar. Even on Crypto Twitter I often need to explain that decentralized social media already exist and Steem didn't disappear into a black hole.
Facebook is actually advertising heavily on Twitter to convince us that it's a wonderful platform for growing small businesses and community groups. The reality of media and business is that the baby bird who doesn't keep crying doesn't get fed. It's a constant struggle for attention.
Steemit, on the other hand, consciously and openly decided not to promote Steem. They considered it unfinished and didn't feel responsible for doing more than building the platform. So they left the promotion efforts to individual bloggers, who obviously weren't professionals and didn't have a coherent strategy. Meanwhile, they wasted their money on staff, code that was never implemented, like SMTs, and infrastructure such as API servers because it was an inefficient system.
