When I was younger I used to think that there was a right path to take and that one of the main objectives of my life is to find it and take it. In time, I have come to understand that I am already on the right path and all I have to do now is keep it clean.
When I moved with my high school friends to a small apartment in Barranco back in 2010, I didn’t know I would start my thirties with the same guys after founding an environmental sustainability organization in the coolest surf and fishing town in Peru. I didn’t know if I was taking the right path. But the truth is I was indecisive, and now I'm not. I was scared and now I'm calm. I cared too much about things that I no longer care about.
Change isn't rampant. It's a process, no matter how old you are. You can try to change in the physical world, but you will leave your emotions behind. You can try to change your mentality, but you will react in the same way. Change is a process that must occur emotionally before it's rationalized.
In the present day, most of us are already thinking about sustainability in various aspects of life, but are having a difficult time holding up to the sustainable lifestyle. To do so, we must start feeling sustainably as well, and the only way to do that is to take action. You can stop using plastic or pick a different brand and that is great, but only when you invest your body and mind, only when you invest your time in something, do you start caring. That is how we fall in love with people, so maybe that too is how we fall in love with an idea.
So act on. Keep it clean. Volunteer for a sustainable cause.
