Every editor on the internet now has an AI button and most of them make the same pitch: you do nothing and the machine writes the post. Ecency's AI writing assistant makes the opposite bet. It will not write your post for you. It cannot, by design: every action it offers requires your own text before it will run. Bring nothing, get nothing.
What it will do is take the post you wrote and make it better. That distinction is the whole feature, so let us be concrete about it.
You will find the AI Assist button in the editor toolbar when you write on ecency.com and in the Ecency mobile apps. It offers five focused actions:
Improve Writing takes your draft and tightens it: grammar, clarity, flow. This is the one to reach for when you know what you want to say but the paragraph came out lumpy.
Check Grammar is the lighter pass. Spelling and grammar only, no restyling. Run it last, right before you publish.
Generate Title is for the moment every writer knows: the post is done and the title box is still empty. It reads your text and offers several title options. You pick one, or let a bad suggestion provoke you into a better one, which is honestly half of what title tools are for.
Suggest Tags reads the post and proposes relevant tags, useful when you have been staring at your own topic too long to see the obvious ones.
Summarize produces a short summary. Handy as a TL;DR at the top of a long technical post or as the description when you share the link elsewhere.
For the two rewriting actions there is a "Show changes" view that highlights, word by word, exactly what was changed. You see every edit before you accept it. And nothing is ever applied automatically: the result sits in a preview and you choose to apply it, copy it, or throw it away and try again. You are the editor. The assistant is staff.
The assistant runs on Points, the same currency behind Promote and Boost+. Every action shows its Points cost right on the button before you run it, so nothing is a surprise and the lighter actions cost less than a full rewrite.
Before Points enter the picture, there is a free daily allowance. Each action shows how many free uses you have left today and the count resets every day, so routine polishing can cost you nothing at all. Ecency Pro is the $19.99 per year membership and the more generous everyday perks tend to live there, so if you publish often it can turn the assistant into an included utility rather than a Points expense.
Past the free allowance, runs are paid from your Points balance and Points are earned free through ordinary activity, posting, commenting, voting and daily check-ins at ecency.com/perks. For most active users the loop funds itself. If you run dry mid-edit, you can top up, or simply wait for tomorrow's free uses.
This is a deliberate product decision, not a missing feature and there are two honest reasons for it.
The first is about you. Your audience on Hive is not an algorithm you are feeding, it is people voting rewards to a voice they chose to follow. The voice is the asset. A tool that replaces it would be spending your only capital to save you your only real work.
The second is about the network. Hive communities read closely and generated filler gets recognized and downvoted, quickly. An assistant that mass-produced posts would be a machine for burning reputations. So ours does not. Each action requires a minimum amount of your own text before it runs and handles posts up to 10,000 characters at a time.
The line we drew is simple: the ideas, the opinions, the experiences are yours. The comma splices are negotiable.
Draft fast and messy, because the blank page is the enemy and the assistant cannot fight it for you. When the draft exists, run Improve Writing on the sections that fought back. Stuck on the headline? Generate Title and react to the options. Let Suggest Tags catch the tags you forgot. If the post runs long, Summarize gives you a TL;DR to put up top. Then Check Grammar as the final pass and publish.
Ten minutes of polish on a post you actually wrote. That is the feature. No ghostwriter, no soul on loan, just fewer typos standing between your ideas and your readers.
