You found your groove, posted an intro, answered a few comments, voted on everything you liked and then Hive said no. The error mentions something like "please wait to transact," which sounds ominous and explains nothing. So let's say the important part first: nothing is broken. Your account is not banned, your posts are not gone and you did nothing wrong. You just met Resource Credits and once you know what they are, the fix is usually one small step or no step at all.
Hive has no transaction fees. You do not pay to post, comment, vote, or send tokens and you never will. But a chain with zero fees needs some other way to stop one bot from flooding it with a million junk transactions and that mechanism is Resource Credits, usually shortened to RC.
Think of RC as a personal energy tank. Every action on the chain drains it a little: publishing a post, leaving a comment, voting, transferring tokens, following someone, reblogging. The exact cost of each action varies with how busy the network is, but the principle is constant. Actions spend RC and RC refills on its own.
Two things RC is not. It is not money, so nothing is deducted from your wallet when you act. And it is not a punishment, so running low says nothing about your reputation or standing. It is closer to a stamina bar than a fine.
The size of your tank scales with your Hive Power, the staked form of HIVE. An account with a lot of Hive Power can transact essentially without thinking about RC. A brand new account holds very little stake, so its tank is small and an enthusiastic first day of commenting and voting can genuinely empty it.
That is why this trips up exactly the people we most want to keep: the active newcomers. If you hit the limit, it is usually proof you were doing everything right.
RC regenerates continuously. A completely empty tank refills in about five days, which works out to roughly 20 percent per day. In practice you rarely start from empty, so a break of a few hours is often enough to get back to commenting. Doing nothing is a legitimate fix and for a casual first week it is frequently the right one.
You can watch it happen. Open your profile on ecency.com and you will see a Resource Credits bar. Click it for the details: how much is available, how much is used and an estimate of how many comments, votes, transfers and follows or reblogs your current balance covers. Ecency also checks before you publish or vote and shows a warning when your RC is likely too low, so you get a heads up instead of a cryptic failure after the fact. In commenting input, there is RC bar as well which shows your current level.
1. Wait. Covered above and worth repeating because it is free. If you are posting once a day and commenting a handful of times, regeneration alone will usually keep up.
2. Power up. If you have earned or bought some HIVE, converting it to Hive Power gives you a permanently bigger tank, plus more influence when you vote. This is the durable fix and it compounds: rewards you earn as Hive Power keep growing your capacity as you go. If you plan to stick around, this is the path.
3. Ask a friend. Anyone with more stake can delegate to you and delegation is a loan, not a gift, so it costs them nothing permanent and they can take it back anytime. There are two flavors. A Hive Power delegation raises your capacity and your vote weight. A direct Resource Credits delegation shares only transacting capacity and you can send one from the same RC panel on your profile: open Resource Credits, hit the delegate button, enter the account and amount. If you know someone established on Hive, this is a one-minute favor to ask. If you are the established one reading this, delegating a slice to a struggling newcomer is one of the highest-leverage kindnesses on the chain.
4. Boost+. No friends with stake yet? Boost+ spends your Ecency Points on a temporary Hive Power delegation to your account for a duration you choose. While it lasts, your account has the capacity of a much larger one, which is exactly what an active newcomer needs during those first busy weeks. Resource Credits are the price of a chain with no fees, paid in patience instead of money. New accounts have small tanks, tanks refill in about five days and every fix is gentle: wait a little, power up, borrow capacity from a friend, or let Boost+ bridge the gap with Points you earned by showing up. The limit is the network protecting itself from spam. It is not a verdict on you and everyone with a large account once bumped into it too.
