At some point, we simply feel like quitting a task, objective, job or something or the other. This feeling is triggered by different things. It could be that we are fed up, feel we are not getting rewarded enough or feel like there is no scope for growth ahead. This article is not saying quitting is always wrong but it should not be the first reaction when you meet a barrier.
Quitting a job or task midway is not the only option available to you when situations come up. So, when the desire to quit tries to overpower you, you can try the following things:

  1. Divert your mind

When we feel like quitting, we tend to only focus on why we should quit, why that idea or job is not working out, and all other negative things. We do this and block out most other things. Creating a diversion for your mind can help reduce the urge to quit. Put your mind to other things, make other plans, and look at the other parts of your life that you can spend time developing. You can use the type to brush up old contacts, work on your body by hitting the gym, going for shopping or going on a vacation.
This is akin to tricking the mind into focusing on positive things rather than concentrating on a stressful situation.

  2. Push yourself

Self-motivation is a good counter to wanting to quit. It is telling yourself you can beat the odds. Telling yourself not to quit in spite of all the issues you are facing. It is you drawing up mental strength when you would just rather give up.
It is inner zeal, dedication and self-motivation that cause us to do the impossible. The world best would not have got there if they had quit when the journey got hard.

  3. Look for inspiration
Apart from self-motivation, you can seek motivation outside of yourself. You can have mentors who you can go to for motivation or for ways to get around the issues you are facing.
Look up the stories of those who made it in spite of enormous challenges and tell yourself that if they could do it, you can.

  4. Reframe your own thoughts
Ask yourself why you want to quit this task/job when you can force your inner abilities to achieve an unexpected goal. Refresh your mind and work with a positive attitude. It really is true that if you send positive vibes, the universe conforms sometimes. You see, the world gives way to the (wo)man who knows where s/he is headed.
Rather than agonizing over the battle you're amidst, remind yourself you're the captain of your ship.

  5. Make realistic goals
Many times we leave the task incomplete because we made a goal that is not realistic judging by the state of things. Make small achievable targets and when you reach them, you can tick off the task and move on to the next. This will motivate you and you will find yourself completing your goals more often than usual. Don’t believe me? Just try once!

  6. Don’t put yourself under undue pressure
There are certain things which you are not in control of. Know these things and accept them. Expand energy only on those things that are within your control. Doing this reduces the feeling of failure and also the pressure you are under. People say you make your luck but that is only because you have prepared and done all the right things. All the things that are within your power because luck is just when victory meets preparation.

-Remember no one is saying that you are a quitter.
