All right, I should honestly tell that this particular order was not easy one. It took me more than a week to finish this portrait. My client was nice woman who send me 100% of payment in advance even before I started this work.
I've made few sketches which I have not showed her even because I was not satisfied with them. First one was cute in my opinion but too young.
Second came out kinda "broken". I didn't liked it at all.
I've made the third sketch which was more or less fine and I've sent it for approval.
Then I was unsure and I felt my client is not sure about the sketch (she gave me just one comment that her face is not recognizable). Usually that means in a polite language that this work is not beautiful I think.
I've created another sketch which I still like a lot. She said that she like nose and lips from previous sketch.
I've added corrections but still stuck with previous sketch. Was thinking that I will color it anyway for my portfolio because it was better. She said "Look, I don't understand anything in the art field" after that I've realized that I just should color what I like and show her because it was hard for her to imagine how the sketch will look in color actually.
I've colored this variant and was still hesitant to show it. After a day I've decided to send it and get the feedback. She just said thank you. I thought that maybe she actually didn't liked that... But next day I saw she finally used it as an avatar. Hopefully that means the result is satisfying... I usually finalize the work to the point when my client really likes it but this time I am still confused...
Tried a version with a "smiling" lips also but then decided to get back to this variant as a final:
Some clients are so light and easy, even if they don't like the initial sketch they say "Wow, this is amazing, I love it so much, but can you change this, this, this, this (everything)?" And I am happily correct and change it. But when my client don't know what he or she wants it's tough story...
Let me know your thoughts, do you like the final? What do you think could be done different to make this work look better?
