Hiking with the kids, flying the drone, and heading to the bike path were all on the menu this week here in Stowe, Vermont. The fall colors are here in force, and the crowds are coming with it. Big busses have arrive with tourist from Boston and New York, all here to see my little town. Tucked in Vermont's Green Mountains, Stowe is most well known as a ski destination, but it is quickly becoming a social media sensation as one of the best places in the world for experiences Fall foliage colors. This year was particularly good, possible due to the very dry fall conditions so far.
Avoiding the crowds can be one of the toughest parts of foliage season here. Most residents avoid the traffic jams by hunkering down. However, I wanted to get the kids out to really experience the colors, so we hit the trails at some of the lesser known spots. Nebraska notch is one of those. It is a pretty good climb from the Trout Club at the back of Nebraska valley, up past beaver ponds, and into a notch along the Long Trail. The trees have grown up a bit over the years that I've been visiting, so the view at the end is not best seen by sending a drone out.
The kids wanted to learn more about the drone, so we hiked up the Sunset Rock trail near downtown Stowe and flew the drone from the field at the top. The kids actually got some amazing shots, like the one above. I was pretty proud of them. And the lighting was just brilliant.
Enjoy some of the shots from the week.
