A life well lived is a beautiful legacy.
I used these words when my grandfather passed away, quite a few years ago, those exact words. I admired him for many reasons, but, the thing that has always stood out is how he lived his life. Every day counted, and it had nothing to do with age. His presence made the world a better place, in small, sometimes unnoticed ways. Do you celebrate life? I can honestly say I do. Every day is a gift that I celebrate. It is not perfect, this life, but, it is mine. Along with the good times of sailing around the Caribbean came the less exciting parts, breaking a leg bone and being out of commission for months. And months. And months. To be fair, it wasn't that many months, but, those moments seem to last longer.
Sometimes these things are just moments out of your day, there are times when a new friendship is fostered through it all, or rekindles, or even just brightens up a person's day. The days are made up of memories, all strung together to create our legacy. I have made grand gestures and they were fun to be a part of making someone's day that special, but, I can say that sometimes, it is the little things that touch people the most. Sometimes it is quite unexpected but, the delivery time was perfect.
I cannot live with what if anymore for the same reason I shut off the news after a while. Things that cannot be possibly changed need to be directed in a more positive way. It just feels better to find a better way. A well-lived life is a beautiful legacy. My heart is full. So it must be time to put it to bed and start this life all over again, tomorrow.
I divided this rudbeckia plant that was getting too big for its place in the garden. I gave it to my neighbor, who gave me a smile when she saw me coming with it. It was a piece of me, given to them. A little something to remember me by. True, small and inconsequential, but, nevertheless, it made their day, and in turn, made mine. So simple, you don't have to even think it up. And just like that, this post is over. Come back tomorrow and we will do it again. Have an amazing day ahead!
May there always be a flower in your life to color your world. #alwaysaflower
All I have are my words, armed in my mind, written in pen, stand by stand. Oh, yes. Still by hand. It has a different feel. Altered not by keys, backspace, and delete, I write, erase, tear it to pieces and start all over again. And again.
The Road Not Taken
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I -
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
