Disclosure: Ai, Open-Source, and Linux | Separating Ourselves From The Clanker-Lovers

Starting with my last video I now begin my work with a No AI disclosure, and found that many other people had the same thoughts.

But because I intend to be entirely honest, and not mislead: I also added the disclaimer: (aside from research purposes).

"Why Does It Even Matter?"

When I'm on Youtube I often come across shorts or videos that are clearly using generative AI in various capacities.
Whether that's the entire video, or just the voice-over dialogue.
When I call it out in a comment I'll often get people who push back saying I'm wrong about the content being AI; which is fine.
What troubles me is when people ask "why does it even matter?"

I usually reply with a philosophical screed that goes something like this:
When it comes to the most innocuous & even innocent videos like an animal doing something cute, or even doing something extraordinary;
The authenticity and novelty of not only the animal choosing to do the act, but also the person being able to capture that moment with a lens for us all to see is the novelty and the value.

If you record a husband catching his wife in the act of cheating: there is no value if it's staged with actors. The authenticity is what gives it value.
For years people have called out faked videos and staged-events for this very same reason.
If you want to watch videos of cats playing in a marching band, that's fine.
It's the deception that really does harm to us all.

How Does Disclosing Anti-AI Actually Help?

There's a few reasons:
IDENTIFICATION:
When watching videos now I'll often be unsure, and asking myself if what I'm watching is AI because it's gotten so sophisticated when it comes to specifically: APPEARING genuine.
It used to be that I'd go to the comments, and see other people pointing to the same reasons, or even ones I hadn't noticed.

But at this point I think many of us are schizo with suspicion of most short-form media we view online.
So it's now hard to even know by checking for other people who confirm your suspicion.

ASSURANCE:
If we let people know that we are opposed to AI I think it builds a level of trust & appreciation for making that clear from the beginning.
I appreciate it when I see channels do it.

I took it a little further, and added a Made(almost)Entirely With Open-Source and Made With Linux.
I put almost because I do use VMware for testing a lot of operating systems, and I use Nvidia's proprietary drivers. I'm sure somewhere or another there's other code that's not open-source.
But my video-editor, recording tools, graphics tools, etc. are all open-source.

However, I did have some comments being upset that I mentioned 'aside from research purposes'. And I had someone call me out for using VMware which is not open-source, and that's a fair point: hence the (mostly).
But I'm not using it to cheat/shortcut my content in any way, and I think that should count for something
