You can buy older hardware online and save money while still upgrading. As the new stuff comes out the older stuff usually gets it's prices adjusted. One thing to never buy used though is graphics/GPU

I'm a huge open-source guy(my Peakd is mostly about that), and my ex-GF was Revit/AutoCAD designer. Unfortunately, CAD is an area where open-source is pretty lacking which I found out when we were looking
