As a postscript to yesterday's blog about the morning coffee maybe being the best thing about work - see https://steemit.com/life/@drwom/is-morning-coffee-the-absolute-best-thing-about-work - I have decided, with just over three days until my annual leave kicks in, to ponder what may be the absolute worst thing about work: waiting for holidays.
It's not that I hate my job. On the contrary, I actually love it. It's challenging, interesting, creative, it uses loads of the skills that I have built up over a lifetime, and my colleagues are brilliant. On this last point, you can be working what looks like, on paper, your ideal job, but if the people you have to work with are jerks, it's a deal-breaker. You just won't enjoy it. Unless you're a jerk too.*
But everyone needs a break - especially after a big year and summer has arrived and it's screaming into your every sense Go to the beach!
And as I sit here pondering my morning coffee I am also forced to consider the fact that for a while now my body seems to have adopted a kind of pre-holiday strategy whereby it tries to enter into a deeper engagement with relaxation than the allotted period of time away from my desk at work is really intended for.
Not helpful.
Does anyone else get that?
I guess it's better than the other option which can happen - you work and work and work right up to the last minute, then on the first day of your hols you get sick. Now that sux.
So, for those of us lucky enough to be counting down the days towards a well deserved break, let's just hang in there! Our time will come!
Thanks to the unions and unionists around the world that have fought so hard to create a world where we are not all full-time slaves to the machine.
Cheers all, and have a great day.
