Evil villain flashbacks! This page offers a rare bit of pre-monstrous characterization for our big bad, Rupert Saxton. To me, he in many ways exemplifies the evil, stupidity, and cowardice that personifies the 1% - ask me how I really feel, haha.
He went to South America to play explorer and conqueror, steals forbidden and dangerous knowledge that allows him to glimpse into different futures, and he when he sees something he doesn't like, he tries to insulate himself from future bad things in a completely foolish and misguided way - and he also wants to do it alone. Maybe he'll protect a few of his friends or servants, but he is a man who glimpses a future crisis and decides he's going to try and build a life raft only for himself.
He has forgotten that humans are a social species, in the mid/long term we only succeed in groups, and a man who thinks selfishly in the face of cosmic horror is setting himself up to fail spectacularly.
