A company offered: 100 boxes + 50 free. The drug was Ceftriaxone + Sulbactam. Strength: 1500 mg. The expiry date was excellent — fresh stock.
Every pharmacist was happy. The price was good. The bonus was generous.
None of them knew those 50 free boxes would cost innocent patients their lives.
What happened next:
Pharmacists started giving this injection to patients inside the pharmacy — like it was a normal antibiotic. No test. No questions. No warning.
But this drug REQUIRES a skin sensitivity test before the first dose. Some patients are severely allergic to Ceftriaxone. It can kill them in minutes.
The pharmacists skipped the test. Some did not even tell the patients.
The result: anaphylactic shock. Cardiac arrest. Deaths. Families destroyed.
And the offer? Ended. The company? Never asked. The pharmacist? Looking for the next deal.
I never forgot this story.
I was just a sales rep. My job was to deliver the offer. But I saw with my own eyes: a safe drug in the wrong hands becomes poison.
The patient does not know this injection needs a test. The pharmacist does not bother to ask.
And who pays? The patient who believes everything in the pharmacy is safe.
