New Andreas Antopolous Video: Decentralizing Truth -- some thoughts
Whenever Andreas' puts up a new video I am always interested in hearing his latest thinking. In this talk he discusses the "decentralization of truth" by considering the relative authenticity and legitimacy of bitcoin, altcoins, and bitcoin forks. The talk is only 20 minutes and I highly recommend watching it:
The key takeaway is that uncertainty is resolved via market forces. Each time we decide to buy/sell a coin or chose which node to run, which wallet to access, or which exchange to use, we are communicating our believe via economic action. The market aggregates those actions into real decentralized consensus.
Finally this video drove home the importance to me of running a full node for the currencies that you believe in, if you want to actively contribute to shaping their future. In many ways, a currency is a decentralized economic enterprise where by holding a coin, you gain some of the benefits of the success of that coin. Unlike an investment in a traditional stock, we all have opportunities to contribute to the success of the coins we believe in and to elevate the ROI of our investments through direct action. A coin itself is in many ways a version of a DAO where holders, miners, evangelists, writers, coders etc can all coordinate in a trustless, decentralized fashion to build long term value.
