This blend of herbs from @perfectherbs has been formulated to help induce labour for pregnant women near or beyond their due date. They help tone and prepare the uterus for labour and are called partus preparators. This tincture contains these herbs:
Actea racemosa (black cohosh): This is a uterine tonic and can cause uterine contractions. It can also stimulate labour and promote strong and regular contractions. This is another herb that must not be used at any other time in pregnancy and should not be taken without proper medical supervision.
Rubus ideas (red raspberry): This is my favourite herb in pregnancy. In the uterus, the action is both relaxant and astringent. The relaxant properties bring about tonic relaxation of the smooth muscle of the uterus, helping to reduce the pain of uterine contractions at labor. It has been used before delivery to encourage safe, easy and speedy childbirth, and after delivery to help prevent hemorrhage and improve recovery from birth.
Mitchella repens (partridgeberry): Partrideberry is a parturient, tonic and astringent and is among “the best remedies for preparing the uterus and whole body for childbirth.” Partridgeberry has a long history of use among Native American women. Numerous tribes used partridgeberry to treat menstrual pains and cramps, to regulate menstruation and relieve heavy bleeding, and to induce childbirth and ease delivery.
Remember to always consult a naturopathic doctor before taking herbs in pregnancy.
