I'm someone who has rarely been on the receiving end of selfless acts of kindness.

Humans, by nature, are selfish beings. So the act of selflessness is something that is very rare for me, as I grew up in a society that is born selfish.

But these days, things are starting to change. And for this, I've nothing but this platform to thank for. Hive has blessed me with the opportunity to meet some people I know I'd keep for the rest of my life, and it has given me a family that feels more real than those who are linked by blood at times.

Then there is this one man, who frankly, at the start, I never gave a second thought to. He sits four oceans away towards the west from me (I could be wrong, I'm not a geologist or anything...:'3), and although he makes some big talks about not having a heart, is an owner of one that feels like it's made of solid titanium.

In all honesty, it doesn't take much to make me happy. I'm a person who gets pleased and feels content because of small things. And this person — while he did perform some grand acts of kindness here and there — made me happy with things that don't really matter, to him and to others, I think.

It's the small gestures that count in my books. The tiny little nudges, the acts of 'I see you' and 'I care' in the moments I'm down in the most nonchalant of ways, these are the things that define how a person is to me. And this man, this straightforward, to the point and borderline sarcastic man who never shies away from telling you off, did just that.

He had been doing so from the start; I guess it just took me this long to catch on.

Again, I'm someone who has rarely been on the receiving end of selfless acts of kindness. So it's surreal, to be worthy enough to receive it, from someone who has billions of other things he will be better off doing.

No, this is not a post that sings praises. He already has a big enough ego to light up Dhaka city for a day. This is just a post that shows gratitude. For being there. Like a parent, and a guardian. For all the scoldings, advice and nudges, that I don't even think they did knowingly. It's a post just to say thank you.

I'm undoubtedly unworthy of this affection and acknowledgement. I don't deserve it, but I'm trying my very best, to become someone who surely does.
