Hello rally fans :)!

Rally Greece was probably the hottest round of the World Rally Championship with 70-80°C in the car! Teams were geared up not only for rough terrain and brutal stages, but also for extreme temperatures. And Hyundai Motorsport took no chances when it came to their drivers/codrivers comfort and safety :). Props to them!

In the photo above, you can see a detail from Hyundai’s helmet setup. Specifically, the integrated ventilation system designed to keep drivers heads cool during hot special stages. This system, originally developed for IndyCar, is now being used in rallying to help tackle the brutal heat inside the cockpit.

With outside temperatures that reached up to 40°C during Rally Acropolis in Greece, the air inside the rally car can easily soar to 70–80°C. Now imagine sitting fully strapped in with flameproof overalls, t-shirt, leggings, helmet, gloves, balaclava, and no option to open a window wide or take off the gear. (The crews are not allowed to remove any part of their protective clothing while competing.)

That’s where this innovative solution comes in. The small tube on top of the helmet was almost certainly connected to the roof mounted air intake positioned above the crew’s heads. Since rally cars are not equipped with air conditioning systems (due to weight, complexity, and power drain), the only cooling airflow available is what comes from the side window vents and the roof scoop!

By channeling that airflow directly into the helmet, Hyundai ensures that the driver and codriver’s heads receive constant, focused ventilation, a small but significant detail that can make a huge difference in performance and concentration on long, hot stages…

It’s just another example of how top tier teams are constantly innovating, even in ways fans might never even notice. While spectators see the jumps, drifts, and stage times, the crew inside the car is dealing with another layer of challenge.

I hope you enjoyed reading this post. Thank you for upvoting, reblogging & commenting. It is greatly appreciated :)❤️!
