As the weather is finally clearing up here in Rhode Island. I find myself just sitting in the sun feeling grateful. Maybe it's the warm sun, or the cool breeze. Yet I know that I'm blessed.
As my mind reflects on my different blessings. I find myself being thankful for the meal I had yesterday.
Oven Baked pork shoulder over white rice with a side of potatoes salad, and of course you need a nice cold cup of passion fruit juice.
The food was amazing. The fatty portion of the pork being one of my guilty pleasures. Yet the true #feelgood moment came with that first initial sip of my ice cold passion fruit juice.
You'll notice the cup says Chinola. In the Dominican Republic Chinola is the word used for passion fruit. The different words used among different spanish dialects for passion fruit, is a subject worthy of its own post. In fact I know I've read a couple post on just the subject.
For example growing up as a child. I would visit Puerto Rico. The first thing I would do is seek out a cup of fresh squeezed Parcha (passion fruit). Throughout the years, I've engaged in many discussions concerning the understood translation. In my search for this treasured beverage.
To be honest, I got so wrapped up in the passion fruit juice. I almost forgot about the Ham and cheese Pastelitos. That would have been unforgivable. Lol
The undeniably tasty combination of ham and cheese, deep fried in a crispy flaky pocket. It's unforgettable.
It's often too easy to get wrapped up in life's daily busy. I know I'm blessed, though sometimes I need to remind myself. Like the simple fact, that there is a small, locally owned Dominican grocery store. Located just a few blocks away from house my house, It's a luxury we're worthy of gratitude. I can't even begin to fathom the work that goes into maintaining that store.
It is because of their discipline and hard work. That I am able to enjoy this tasty little meal. What little details about your life are you thankful for?
Continuing with the theme gratitude. Here are a few other post on subjects that are worthy of a little gratitude.
