This is so deep, so real, so true! Not every love story has a "We all live happily ever after together," ending. Sometimes the best thing ending is for a couple to live happily ever after away from one another.
I think you are right - even when parents are not couples, it doesn't stop then from being parents! This view is the best for the mental health of the child.
