Does your writing have a good flow, or is it full of bumps and stops? To prevent this it is important that your reader does not have to fill in gaps while reading your writing.
Using specific transition words can help point the reader into a new direction. Transition words are there to help you and the reader move from one point to the next. They also indicate the relationship between points or ideas.
Here is a whole bunch of them you can use:
To add or show sequence: again, then, besides, first, second, third, last
To compare: also, in the same way, likewise, similarly
To contrast or show exception: although, but, however, nevertheless, still, though, yet
To give examples or intensify: after all, for example, for instance
To indicate place: above, below, here, there, near, nearby
To indicate time: after a while, afterward, once, before, later, now, soon, then, until
To show cause or effect: as a result, because, consequently, hence
To repeat, summarise, or conclude: in brief, in other words, in short, therefore
Use the following sparingly: to summarise, in conclusion, in summary
Using transition sentences are extremely important for linking paragraphs. When your paragraphs are strongly linked already, it is not necessary to use strong transitional sentences, but if there is a shift using a really strong transition will help your reader and make your writing great.
Just one word of phrase can be perfect to show the shift or connection, being to direct, or making a very strong transition can really destroy your writing.
Overdone transition: I have just spoken about all the reasons why I should be in the play. Now I am going to tell you a few other reasons.
A simple "however" would be perfect in this sentence.
Just on a little side note for self improvement. I will be doing pushups and situps for the amount of $$$ I earn on this post and will give a short feedback every day at the end of each post.
