To really improve, you need to challenge yourself and do something that you aren't used to or can't do perfectly. refining your skills takes time, hence don't be afraid to go farther to discover new technics.

Inspiration is indeed a scarce thing, however, I would suggest going over artstation.com which is a website that I visit daily. You can find there many great references and suggestions from top tier artists to improve your skills.
