It was one of those days where I just wanted to paint but didn't have an idea for it. Here comes in the reference pictures to save the day. I'm working more towards finding the balance between using references and working on my ideas to share a thought through words or painting. The former helps me to improve my art skills without bursting my mind for an idea to hit in order to create something and the latter provides me the thrill. That's what excites me - finding or creating thought and expressing it visually.
I've had times where I've swayed too much in one direction which led to some problems. For instance, when I use to create only when I had an inspiration, that came in the way of improving skills because skills require practice but it's difficult to find an inspiration or an idea every day. In order to improve skills, quantity is important. There was again a time very recently in fact where I used references constantly which didn't provide me the thrill and satisfaction. Later I figured what I needed was a balance between the two.
My last post provided me immense pleasure as I had an inspiration and I developed it into something and that happened to me after so long. Today I simply had a practice session where I was more focused on color gradience and combination.
