Talent is what stands you out from the rest. Talent paves the way for you to reach your self fulfilment in life. Talent is your passion and motivator. You would never get to enjoy life in it's fullest if you never get to discover your talent. Martin Luther King Jr said "If a man hasn't discovered something that he will die for, he isn't fit to live". This is how pivotal talent is to our journey in Life. In my previous article, i threw some light on how you could mine your talent. The question is, is just having talent enough? if you inherited a fortune from your family, or you were fortunate to discover a hidden but lost treasure, does that guarantee you will be successful if not well managed? I leave the answer to you.

HOW YOU MAY MANAGE YOUR TALENT
We have heard of so many celebrities who failed badly either financially, maritally, social wise, health wise, professionally, as the case may be. It is mostly not accidental but lack of personality competence to match their special ability. There is need to pay attention to other personality attributes that are crucial to grace your talent.
Strength Of Character : More persons ignore this all important factor. Character is consciously built hence, not left to chance. The more positive you are in character the better you do with your passion. In His words "The toughest thing about success is that you've got to keep being a success. Talent is is only a starting point in business. You've got to keep working that talent". - Irving Berlin.
Strength Of Responsibility : Many people just say words they don't keep or even shy away from important commitments. Your action or inaction on the negative scale of responsibility is a danger sign for your talent.
Development : It is not enough to have crude oil, you must refine it. It is not beautiful if left in it's raw state; your gold would not be any better. You must devote time and other resources to continually improve on your talent.
Teachability : There is always room for everyone to learn. You may need mentoring from experienced folks, reading to expand your knowledge base, you must open your mind.
Sustainability : Passion fires up your talent. You must sustain your passion by continuously believing in this original you. Keep dieting on positivism and required efforts.
Avoid Unhealthy Competition : Countless great men and women had fallen prey of this. The irony is you are your own version, you should only strive to be a better you and not a better Tom. You may ask voice trainers if any two persons sing on same vocal range, strength, depth or pitch. The sky is large enough to accommodate all flyers.
Team Spirit : Do not walk away from team work. Enjoy the benefits of synergy. You could be the finishing touch for the beauty of the whole. Not even Steve Jobs did it alone.
Accept The Challenge : Great people saw challenges as opportunity for glory. See the story of little David and Goliath of the Bible story. Professor Stephen Hawking, a renowned scientist, bound to the wheel chair, diagnosed of a motor neuron disease at 21, combining his career and family life, yet hopeful of being in space one day, accepted the challenge. John C. Maxwell submitted that "You don't overcome challenge by making them smaller. You overcome them by making yourself bigger".
Be People Oriented : Your talent can not operate successfully in a vacuum. You need people to succeed. People provide you the platform, sometimes the resources, the push, the accolade, the pay cheques. You can not afford to bite the fingers that feed you. Be nice to people.
Give Back To Society : You probably would not have found some food to eat if your predecessors had not sown back some seeds, nor would you find a country if your fathers had not fought for it. Be a regenerator and not one who degenerates the ecosystem. This is one secret of good success and fulfilment of purpose.
The list is obviously not exhaustive, but I believe might be helpful to align us in the right path of managing our talent.
"talent is cheaper than table salt. What separates the talented individual from the successful one is a lot of hard work". - Stephen King. We need more than just having a talent to be successful.
Do not leave your talent to chance as you can not watch your driver sleep while on a ride. Step it up, Steam your talent.
