Game developer raises US $ 30 million to fund blockchain startups
Gumi Inc., a Japanese developer of mobile video games, has proposed the launch of a US $ 30 million investment fund to finance startups focused on cryptocurrencies and Blockchain technology.
Gumi is internationally recognized for his participation in the development of titles such as 'Brave Frontier' and 'Final Fantasy: Brave Exvius'.
The fund, entitled 'Gumi Cryptos', will be led by the CEO and founder of Gumi, Hironao Kunimitsu, as well as by the founder of the Evercoin exchange, Miko Matsumura.
In this regard, Kunimitsu commented that:
We decided to create a fund that would allow us to relate more directly with blockchain startups and cryptocurrencies at an early stage, to be more effective partners and have a greater impact on the market.
Although the project is relatively new, funding has already been made to initiatives such as 'Basis' and 'Robo Cache', which seek to develop applications in distributed accounting technology.
For his part, Matsumura emphasized that:
Part of the motivation behind the investment fund is to finance new initiatives. What attracts the initial stages is that we can invest in tokens or in 'equity' (a type of financial activity that consists of the acquisition, by an entity specializing in private equity). Likewise, we are willing to invest in financial services, in new technologies for games. We also believe that there is a close connection between the development of video games and cryptocurrencies.
The details on the type of sectors that will finance has not yet been announced; however, the project directors affirm that they will remain open to multiple possibilities.
It must be clarified that Japan's current outlook is limited for the development of new decentralized technologies, thanks to the lack of regulations, and many cryptocurrency companies "are struggling to enter Japan, the world's largest digital currency market," he said. Matsumura
Still, this is a great step for the country of the rising sun, which is widely recognized for its contributions and innovations in the video game industry.
