We grow up and think we are on the road to recovery,
But until we deal with our feelings we will never really be free.
Although we are adults now, we are still that sadden child inside,
Please hold me, help me, love me we all silently cry.
We take compliments as sarcasm,
We take relationships as a game.
Constantly seeking approval,
Of this adult child circle of pain.
We never recognize accomplishments,
We are there for everyone but ourselves.
Hiding our emotions,
Please don't let the pain be felt.
Controlling is our nature,
Not understanding why we do.
You see we were never given choices,
We where told what to say and do.
A feeling of emptiness within us,
A void so unexplained.
It is that small child within us,
Unfulfilled in every way.
Love and trust in adulthood help the healing start,
But how do we heal this small child's broken heart.
I do not know the answer,
For as you probably know.
I am the adult child suffering,
And I am healing but the process is slow.
I believe in God almighty,
Will help to see me through.
My road to recovery is a journey,
Of something incomplete.
My childhood with its turmoil,
But as an adult please God let me have some peace.
