Cuando la voz se defiende a sí misma, nace el poema

Español

II
Me preguntan por qué escribo estas cosas
volátiles que algunos llaman versos.
Andan mis odios de morir dispersos.
Siguen volando negras mariposas.

¿Escribo del vecino? ¿Del asmático
sexo con la virtud? ¿Del Ying? ¿Del Yang?
¿De los que sufren? ¿Los que ya no están?
No quisiera volverme asintomático

pero estas cosas que de tinta son
construyen brasas en mi corazón,
se ofenden, ríen, lloran. Necesito

otro lugar común, otra blasfemia
para estas cosas que ni la academia
puede entender que salen como un grito.

English

II
They ask me why I write these fleeting things
that some insist on calling poetry.
My dying hatreds wander restlessly,
and blackened butterflies still flap their wings.

Do I write of the neighbor? Of the frantic
sex paired with virtue? Of the Yin? The Yang?
Of those who suffer? Those no longer here?
I fear becoming symptomless, semantic—

but these things made of ink, these things I own,
build glowing embers in my trembling chest.
They laugh, they cry, they bruise. I must confess

I need another commonplace, another
blasphemy for these things that even scholars
cannot explain, erupting as a shout.
