Batman had just dealt with Insomnia, while also having his body taken over by Deadman. Therefore, imagine Bruce Wayne's surprise when he wakes up from a deep sleep that lasted eight weeks. He feels that he is needed to protect Gotham City, but a good majority of the city doesn't feel the same way. Commissioner Montoya feels that she is doing for Gotham what Jim Gordon wasn't able to do. After all, the city has been fairly quiet.
The city has been fairly quiet because Catwoman is rounding up criminals that previously worked for many of the crime bosses in the city, as well as breaking some out of jail, and organizing heists involving the rich. This is her solution to the crime problem that involved the ordinary citizens of Gotham City. Women like Hoops, Fuller, Marquise and Scorpiana are acting as leaders within Catwoman's realm.
Batman wasn't too happy when he found out about his lover's criminal operation. This not only pitted him against her but also against their children. Bruce Wayne started to almost believing she may be right until the death of Roland Garner. However, the Riddler has been monitoring the situation very closely and he may be getting ready to befriend Batman. This would make sense because Catwoman has been scooping up all of his, and many others', henchmen.
"Batman/Catwoman: The Gotham War: Battle Lines" #1 came out at the end of last year to be continued in "Batman" #137. Jorge Jimenez is responsible for the striking cover artwork. Tini Howard and Chip Zdarsky wrote this dark tale of a city on the rebound (lol). Mike Hawthorne, Adriano Di Benedetto and Romulo Fajardo,Jr., combined to bring the action within the panels to life. I can't wait to read more about the perfect dysfunctional family.
