On a recent visit to Bayville's Conquest Comics, I came across an Artists Elite Comics issue among the new releases. Always looking for something new, I decided to investigate this issue. Based out of Indiana, this issue (as well as many of those that were advertised) appear to be in an anthology format. In "Artists Elite Presents" #1, we are introduced to three series, namely "Last Serpent Prince," "Final Boss" and "Sand Wenches."
The problem with this format for me is you don't get enough of the story before it ends and needs to be continued elsewhere. There is not enough time for character development. Brett Booth, Tyler Kirkham and Alé Garza have developed strong concepts, but there isn't enough dialogue to make one want to continue reading. In some cases, there was very limited dialogue.
The artwork is another story. Brett Booth, Sal Regla, Andrew Dalhouse, Tyler Kirkham, David Miller, Ifansyah Noor, Alé Garza and Sanju Nivangune combined to make each story visually amazing! Printed on high quality paper, the colors and illustrations just pop out right at you. The stories deal with Basilysc (the Serpent Prince Of Crotalis), Tommy Brazen ( a disgraced former Special Forces Operative) and Female heroes who like mashed potatoes while being spied upon by Mancat. Not knowing any part of the story made the last one especially confusing. And anytime I thought I was going to have an "Aha" moment, the piece ended.
