A few weekends ago, we drove to Lancaster County in Pennsylvania to see another show at Sight & Sound Theatres in Ronks. I have never seen a bad show there and this one lived up to that reputation. In my opinion, "Moses" had the best songs of all the other shows I've seen. I understand their reasoning for not featuring the actors in their playbill ("Insight"), but the performances were Broadway quality if not even better in some instances.
Their use of live animals also makes each performance special, especially at the performance we were attending as one of the horses was appearing to give its rider a hard time. It was cute how they mixed in fake animals with the real thing.
Utilizing two side stages, as well as the front stage, gave the audience a panoramic experience that keeps the story moving as the action slows down in front of the viewer. The basket that Moses was put in as a baby to keep him from being murdered moved steadily throughout the crowd. The plagues were handled with great effects mixing video into the live action. The highlight was the parting of the Red Sea and how they handled the visuals.
I guarantee that this performance will make you laugh, angry, cry and happy during your time in your seat. Just as I can't watch a movie in the theater without popcorn, I have to view their performances with their toasted almonds. If you have never experienced a show at Sight & Sound, you don't know what you're missing, no matter what your religious beliefs are!
