Fellow Steemians!
Catalonia in Spain has declared independence from the rest of the country in light of recent events. If you ask me the outcome was more than obvious after the insanity of the Spanish police.
Unfortunately I see choppy waters ahead for all of Catalan, let us hope and pray that it doesn't escalate into civil war!
I'll take this opportunity to talk about modern democracy. Seeing as Spain is a democratic state, wouldn't a majority vote for independence from any part of the country mean that they have to abide democratic "law" and allow said section of the country to have it's independence?
I mean democracy is supposedly the will of the people not the ruling party.
One could argue that the rest of Spain didn't have a say, but then again the rest of Spain does not live in Catalonia...
