It's a new year and millions of people are busy planning their goals for the next 12 months ahead of them, making detailed resolutions for themselves and hoping that this will be the year that they actually stick.

Many of us want to see change in some area of our life, whether it be our finances, our health, our friendships, our education; there is always some area that we might feel could use some improvement.

And the start of the new year is a perfect time for many to try and start off on the right foot.

But change is hard,...

and many of us soon find out that our motivation will dwindle and we will run out of that willpower within a few days time.

For some of the individuals out there who've studied human motivation and habits, they'll tell you that willpower has little to do with it and that the secret to making lasting change instead rests in building good habits in your life. In other words, you need to limit the time that you spend thinking about it, trying to make the right decision, and instead try to carve an environment and life for yourself where the thinking becomes automatic. The habit then becomes effortless and helps you to delay gratification so that you can achieve some later goal down the line.

This is why it's said that many successful individuals have a variety of shared 'good habits' that help them to achieve and maintain their success, such as good time management, money saving, and more.

Hope In Change...

For a great deal of people who are facing circumstances right now that they find difficult, change offers them hope and it offers them something to work toward. Hopelessness breeds misery and fuels discontent, but having hope that things can get better in some area and change can help us to find a better standard of living for ourselves and enable us to enjoy our life on the way to where we are going.

Are you expecting something good to happen in your life?

Are you looking forward to anything, are you hopeful to see any sort of change in the near future? It doesn't cost you anything to believe for good things, but one could say that it does cost you if you are hopeless because it fuels discontent, stress, and depression. We can choose to maintain a good attitude even in the midst of our suffering and to me that is strength, wouldn't you say so? There's much benefit to be reaped in maintaining a hopeful attitude and plenty of downside to opting for despair and hopelessness instead.

Hope enables us to endure what we must go through and to do so with a smile on our face, with a vision for better things yet to come. The new year is a great time to get started on trying to make some changes but every single day is a new chance to start again and to start working toward something new. We shouldn't be afraid to be hopeful just because we are afraid of things not turning out how we imagined and facing the possibility that we might be disappointed.

If the end result is that you won't get what you wanted, at least you enjoyed your life and you had hope along the way. So sure we might not achieve our goals that we set out to accomplish this year or in the years to come, but it's important that we keep setting goals for ourselves and keep working toward something better.
