It seems that many students can't help themselves but turn to ChatGPT for help. Even if schools and teachers have been spending quite some effort now on warning those that if they do get caught using ChatGPT to write their essays etc that they could be in some serious trouble. Regardless, they are trying to get away with it still. At least that's what some reports have suggested with one student or another getting 'caught' having used ChatGPT to do their essays for them.

It seems that teachers and schools have been having a not so difficult time catching the students because there are reports of some who have been accused of using it to do the work. Might teachers start looking to alternatives instead of trusting that students won't use it to do the essay work for them? Will more essay work become a thing of the past?

Schools have moved to try and ban ChatGPT from being used but that doesn't stop students, they've been warned against cheating for years and years and still schools face this problem at one time or another. But some teachers have adopted a more open policy as they say 'everyone is cheating' in potentially using the software. You might even find a teacher or two who is requiring their students to use ChatGPT as a part of their coursework, but that certainly doesn't appear to be the common choice right now with most courses or schools yet.

If you can't beat them, join them?

If teachers feel they are unable to fight back against this sort of cheating, will they be more open minded to somehow incorporate the use of it into the classroom?

There are tools coming out that are helping schools and teachers detect when AI might have been used, and it is obviously going to be a very difficult situation for a student if they do get accused of using it but continue to insist that they did the work all on their own.

At least for now those tools that do detect if AI has been used there are teachers that have celebrated the innovation, giving them an opportunity to try and check and see if the work is authentic or not.

When a paper is due and a student doesn't know where to start it's easy to see how it might be tempting for many to turn to a tool that can easily complete it for them. It has also allegedly been used by some teachers as well, not just students. Some say it has enabled them to learn at a faster rate by turning to these programs for help.
