I don't think that schools should be looking at the social media accounts of their teachers or students, to me school life and personal life are two different things, there should be a line between them, so when I am in a school environment , I know that I have to follow the rules there the same thing applies to teachers when they are working.. When the school day is over and everyone goes home I dont think that the school should still be watching what they do after.
Social media is a place where people share their thoughts and feelings, they post pictures and jokes with their friends, they use it to relax after the stressful day just because a student or teacher has a media account , it does not mean that the school should be monitoring it, Some people say that schools need to know what their students are thinking so they can help them, okay .... I understand why they think that, but still I do not think that monitoring their social media is the answer, if a student is having a time the school should make it easy for them to ask for help, that would be much better than monitoring what they post online.
The same thing applies to teachers, teachers are professionals, they are also people , They have opinions and hobbies, they have families and lives outside of school, so as long as they are not doing anything illegal or breaking the rules I do not think that the school should be monitoring their social media posts.
Imagine if you felt like everything you posted online could be talked about at school the day , that would make a lot of people feel uncomfortable and instead of being themselves they would always be worried about who is watching them.
I dontt think that anyone should have to feel that way.
Of course this does not mean that people can post anything they want without getting in trouble, If someone uses media to threaten or hurt someone that is a different story, Those situations are not just about school rules they are about the every daylaw, That is not the same as schools always checking peoples social media accounts.
There is also the issue of trust, when schools start monitoring social media account , it can make students and teachers feel like they are not trusted, A good school should be a place where people respect each other, It should not be a place where people are always watching out each other, I would rather go to a school that encourages people to talk to each other than one that always checks their social media account
If a student is struggling, talk to them.
If a teacher needs help give it to them.
If someone reports a problem look into it.
Those things make more sense than watching someone's social media account all the time, At the end of the day people deserve to have some privacy, just because it is easy to monitor peoples social media does not mean that it is right, Schools play a role in peoples lives but they should not be able to do anything they want.
To me it is simple like this, schools should focus on what happens at school and respect people's space when they are not at school, Guidance and support are important, so is privacy, when schools respect those boundaries everyone is cool.
