There are many places today which heavily restrict the freedom of individuals to have backyard chickens. In recent years though as more people have sought independent living and establishing whatever off-grid food and water sources they could the interest of backyard chickens has grown.
There have also been products brought to market which have enabled people to quickly get into the business of owning backyard chickens and reaping the benefits of them. Whether one or two chickens, or several, there are many Americans who are now invested in backyard chicken farming.
With food prices going up those who have backyard chickens might be happy to have that affordable access to food, as well as the other benefits that having backyard chickens might provide. It is a task though that many will never know anything about or want anything to do with, but in some areas there have been efforts to protect that right of individuals or establish new freedom to embrace backyard chickens to some limited extent. Many people today fear an environment with full backyard chicken freedom.
Then there are other regions that are also now revisiting their rules on backyard chickens because of alleged 'increased animal activity' in the area that they believe is a result. Critics say that the chickens attract other animals and this is one of the reasons they want to see people's liberty on that front infringed.
For businesses in this industry they've seen a huge spike in demand since the pandemic, as more people went looking to live a simple and self-sufficient homestead lifestyle. For many who are raising chickens they suggest that the product is better than what they can find in the grocery store for several reasons and it's estimated that there are millions of Americans who might be raising their own chickens with backyard chicken coops.
